It is hard to believe but we are nearly at the end of our Scouting “Year”. We will be holding our last Pack Meeting of the school year on Friday, May 19th where we will be awarding ranks to our Scouts. They have been working hard and I’m very proud of them as they complete this step in their Scouting Journey. The following Monday we will hold our final Planning Meeting for the “year” as we start preparing for the 2023/2024 Scout Year. All our welcome to join our call and provide input into our plans.

In April we held our annual Spring Camp Out. The Pack traveled to Gettysburg where we toured the battlefield and museum. We stayed at the Artillery Ridge Campground where the boys got to play mini-golf and fish. At our campfire we retired several flags and told stories and jokes while enjoying some s’mores.

On Friday, March 17th, we will be saying goodbye to our Arrow of Light scouts as they Crossover to their Boy Scout Troops. It will be an opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments as they prepare to begin the path to Eagle. This includes receiving their Arrow of Light .

In February we held our annual Blue and Gold celebration and it was an honor to award several of our scouts with their Bobcat rank. This rank is the first one earned by all Cub Scouts as it teaches them the basics of Scouting.

We are looking forward to our Spring Camp Out in April as we will be going to the Artillery Ridge Campground in Gettysburg, PA. It is a fun campground with fishing, mini-golf and a playground. It is also located less than a mile from the National park which will have an opportunity to explore.

This past weekend the Pack held its annual Pinewood Derby with over 20 boys participating in the races. It was an exciting event and it was a great example of the Cub Scout Motto – “Do Your Best”.

In January we also had a Pack Meeting where we looked at some of the basics of Scouting and met with Leesburg Town Councilor Todd Cimino-Johnson who talked with the Pack about his Scouting experiences and his new role. We hope to tour the Township building with him soon.

This month we are looking forward to an afternoon skating at the Bush Tabernacle Rink and our Blue and Gold Celebration. Scouts are also working to complete their Bobcat rank and our Arrow of Light Scouts are preparing for their Crossover in March.

December 16th, 2022

Tonight we have our last Pack Meeting of the year and I know the boys are excited as they will receive their Pinewood Derby Kits and play a fun game. We will also discuss at a high level the Duty to God requirements for each Den as there are many religious celebrations this time of year.

Reflecting back on the past few months, I am proud of the progress of our scouts as we collected several tons of food for Scouting for Food in November and our Webelos and Arrow of Light scouts cooked up a yummy dinner at our Fall Camp Out at Bear’s Den. The scouts also were taught the history of our flag and how to fold it by our Charter Organization the American Legion, Post 34. Finally, we had about a dozen scouts participate in the Leesburg Holiday Parade.

The Pack is looking forward to more fun adventures in 2023.

October 11th, 2022

Fall is upon us and we’ve had a good start to our year. Our theme this month is the Great Outdoors as we work on our nature and camping related adventures.

It was great seeing everyone at the Crossover and first Pack Meeting. It was fun watching the boys make their neckerchief slides and meeting all of our new Cub Scouts. Our Webelos learned a lot in rainy conditions at the Webelos-O-Ree the first weekend of October. Last Sunday we had our fall hike and scavenger hunt at Banshee’s Reek and we couldn’t have asked about a nicer day for a hike and to talk about the Outdoor Code, Leave No Trace and the Six Essentials. Den meetings have started and our next Pack Meeting will be 10/28.

In November we have our Fall Camp Out (11/05) & Scouting for Food (11/05 & 11/12).

I want to welcome new and returning Cub Scouts to the Pack. As the new Cubmaster of Pack 998 I can’t wait to start our exciting year with lots of fun and educational opportunities. A little background on me, I started my Scouting journey as a member of the first Tiger’s Den with Pack 152 in Downingtown, Pa. I completed my Arrow of Light and eventually went on to Eagle as a member of Troop 52 in Marshallton, PA. I am still active with the Order of the Arrow. I have many fond memories of scouting that I hope to pass along to my sons and our Pack.

We are still in the process of finalizing our program for the year and we will be having a planning session in early September that all are welcome to join. Our goal for the Pack is for the Scouts to have fun, learn the basics of Scouting and provide service to the community. You will find below the list of activities planned in Scoutbook along with those listed on our home page. You can view a high level schedule with activities on our Google Drive .

If you have any questions you can reach me thru our contact page or pack998leesburg@gmail.com. I look forward to our Scouting Journey together.
